The "traffic" patterns between these two are not very compatible. Realtime audio I/O is not bursty, it's more deterministic and benefits from an isochronous transport since you don't have to buffer as much and so latency is reduced. I dont know what is exactly done but there is a problem with FW !Ī disk's I/O will be bursty (max burst being the dependent on the drive's specs).

See the number of persons that are complaining on Apple/logic web !! If you have big libs (QLSO.) that demands a lot of reading you are in trouble ! It depends what you have on your FW disk !
